How many bags of cement per 1000 bricks?
As a rough guide, laying 1000 bricks needs about 5 to 6 bags of cement and roughly a tonne of building sand, based on a 1 to 4 or 1 to 5 mortar mix.
A common working figure is that 1000 standard bricks take somewhere around 0.5 to 0.6 cubic metres of mortar. At a 1 to 5 mix that is roughly 5 to 6 bags of cement and about a tonne of soft sand, give or take depending on joint size and mix.
Thicker joints, frogged bricks laid frog up and wastage all push the figure up, so treat this as a planning estimate rather than an exact order.
Otis works mortar quantities out from the brick count and joint, converts to bags of cement and sand, checks what you hold and prices it for the account.
