How many wall ties per square metre?
For a standard cavity wall, allow about 2.5 wall ties per square metre, set at roughly 900mm horizontally and 450mm vertically, with extra ties around openings.
The usual spacing for cavity wall ties is around 900mm apart horizontally and 450mm vertically, which works out at about 2.5 ties per square metre of wall.
You then add extra ties down the sides of openings, typically at 300mm vertical centres within 225mm of the reveal. Wider cavities and taller walls may call for more, so always follow the structural design and current guidance.
Otis works the tie count out from the wall dimensions, adds the extras for openings and prices the ties with the rest of the wall for the account.
General guidance for the trade. Always follow current Building Regulations, manufacturer instructions and the specifics of the job.
