How many bricks per square metre?

A single skin of standard UK bricks laid in stretcher bond works out at about 60 bricks per square metre. Allow a little extra for cuts and waste.

Standard UK bricks are 215mm by 102.5mm by 65mm. Laid in a single skin stretcher bond you get roughly 60 bricks per square metre of wall face. For a double skin cavity wall, double it to about 120 per square metre. Add around 5 percent for cuts, breakages and waste.

Otis takes the wall dimensions, works out the brick count with waste, checks stock and prices the bricks and mortar together for the account.
