How much ballast and cement per cubic metre of concrete?
For a general 1 to 5 mix, one cubic metre of concrete takes roughly 2 tonnes of all in ballast and about 6 to 8 bags of 25kg cement. Stronger mixes use more cement.
Working from a common 1 part cement to 5 parts ballast mix, a cubic metre of finished concrete needs roughly 1.8 to 2 tonnes of all in ballast and around 6 to 8 bags of 25kg cement, allowing for the materials packing down.
A stronger mix, such as 1 to 4, uses more cement for the same ballast, while foundations may use a leaner mix. Always match the mix to the job.
Otis converts a slab or footing into cubic metres, works out the ballast and cement for the chosen mix, checks stock and prices it for the account.
