tonnes needed
Otis prices bulk bags or loose loads on your live stock and can add delivery to the order.
Uses typical densities such as 2.0 tonnes per cubic metre for MOT type 1 and 1.75 for gravel. An estimate, always confirm with your merchant.
How the numbers work
The calculator multiplies area by depth to get the volume, then applies the density of the material you chose to convert that into tonnes. Different materials weigh different amounts, so the tonnage changes with the material.
It also shows bulk bags, taken as about 850kg each, and 25kg handy bags, so you can order in whichever way suits the job.
This is what Otis does, instantly
A calculator works out quantities. Otis goes further. It takes a customer question, works out the materials, checks live stock and pricing in the merchant’s own system, builds the quote and takes the order, day or night. What takes a few minutes here happens in seconds on a merchant’s website and trade counter.
Common questions
How many tonnes in a bulk bag?
A standard bulk bag holds roughly 850kg, though this varies by material and supplier. The tool uses 850kg as a working figure.
What depth of sub base do I need?
A common depth for a driveway sub base is 100 to 150mm. Paths and patios often use less. Check your build up requirements.
How do I convert cubic metres to tonnes?
Multiply the volume in cubic metres by the density of the material. The tool does this for you using typical densities.
Should I order extra?
A little spare is wise for levelling and compaction. Loose materials also settle, so do not cut it too fine.
