What fall should a patio have?

A patio should slope away from the building to drain, at a fall of around 1 in 80. That is roughly a 12mm drop per metre, so a 3 metre patio falls about 40mm across its width.

To shed rainwater and stop pooling, a patio should fall away from the house at around 1 in 80, which is about 12mm of drop for every metre. Over a three metre patio that gives roughly a 40mm fall from the wall to the outer edge.

Keep the finished paving at least 150mm below the damp proof course, and direct water towards a drainage channel or a suitable soakaway rather than towards the building.

Otis helps a customer plan the paving, sub base and any drainage channel, checks stock and prices the materials for the account.
