How many roof tiles per square metre?
It varies by tile. Large interlocking concrete tiles need about 10 per square metre, while small plain tiles need around 60 per square metre at the usual gauge.
Roof tile coverage depends on the tile type and the gauge it is laid to. Large format interlocking concrete tiles typically work out at around 10 tiles per square metre. Plain tiles, which are much smaller and double lapped, need roughly 60 per square metre.
The manufacturer will give an exact figure for a given headlap and batten gauge, so always check the specific tile. Then add for the ridge, hips, verges and a small waste allowance.
Otis takes the roof area and tile choice, applies the manufacturer coverage, works out battens and fixings alongside, checks stock and prices it for the account.
