Otis pulls tiles, battens, felt and fixings as one job and prices them on your live stock.

Tiles per square metre and batten runs are typical for the tile shown and vary by brand and gauge. An estimate, always confirm with your merchant.

How the numbers work

The calculator multiplies your roof area by the number of tiles a square metre for the tile you choose, then adds a wastage allowance for cuts, hips and valleys. Batten length is estimated from a typical gauge for that tile, and underlay from the area.

Tile coverage and batten gauge vary by manufacturer, so treat the figures as a close guide and confirm the exact tile with your merchant.

This is what Otis does, instantly

A calculator works out quantities. Otis takes a customer question, works out the materials, checks live stock and pricing in the merchant’s own system, builds the quote and takes the order, day or night.

Common questions

How many roof tiles per m2?

It depends on the tile. Large interlocking concrete tiles are about 10 a square metre, pantiles about 16, and small plain tiles about 60. The tool uses the right figure for your choice.

How do I measure roof area?

Measure each slope and add them together. For a simple pitched roof, that is the length times the slope height, doubled for both sides.

How much wastage should I allow?

Around 5 to 10 percent covers cuts at hips, valleys and verges. The slider lets you set it.

Does this include ridge tiles?

No, ridge and hip tiles depend on the ridge length, which varies by roof. This tool covers the main tiles, battens and underlay.
