How the numbers work
The calculator works out the area, then the blocks needed at the rate per square metre for your block size, plus a wastage allowance for cuts. It estimates the sharp sand laying course and the MOT type 1 sub base beneath.
Depths vary with use, so a driveway that takes vehicles needs a deeper sub base than a patio. Check your build up.

How many block pavers per m2?
About 50 for standard 200 by 100mm blocks. Large format blocks cover more, so fewer are needed.
How much sub base for a driveway?
Commonly 150mm of MOT type 1 for a domestic drive, less for a patio. This tool estimates it for you.
How much sand for block paving?
A laying course of about 50mm of sharp sand, plus kiln dried sand to fill the joints at the end.
Should I add wastage?
Yes, 5 percent covers cuts at edges and curves. The tool includes it.
