How the numbers work
The calculator works out the screed volume from the floor area and thickness, then splits it into cement and sharp sand for a standard 1 to 4 floor screed. A common thickness for a sand and cement screed is 50 to 75mm.
Cement is shown as 25kg bags and sand as kilograms and tonnes so you can order in the units your merchant sells.

Common questions
What mix is used for floor screed?
A traditional sand and cement screed is usually mixed at 1 part cement to 3 or 4 parts sharp sand. This tool uses 1 to 4.
How thick should a screed be?
A bonded sand and cement screed is often 40 to 50mm, unbonded or floating screeds thicker. Check your floor build up.
How much sand and cement for a screed?
It depends on area and thickness. A 40 square metre floor at 50mm needs roughly two cubic metres of screed, which this tool breaks into bags and tonnes.
Does this include wastage?
A small allowance is built into the volume. Order a little spare for the mix and for finishing.
