How thick should floor screed be?

A bonded sand and cement screed is often 25mm to 40mm thick, an unbonded screed around 50mm, and a floating screed over insulation typically 65mm to 75mm. Follow the specification and manufacturer guidance.

Screed thickness depends on how it is laid. A bonded traditional sand and cement screed is commonly 25mm to 40mm, while an unbonded screed on a membrane is usually at least 50mm. A floating screed over insulation is generally 65mm to 75mm, and more where underfloor heating is involved.

Flowing liquid screeds can be laid thinner, so always follow the product data sheet and the floor specification for the job.

Otis converts the floor area and screed depth into materials, whether bagged or a screed mix, checks stock and prices it for the account.

General guidance for the trade. Always follow current Building Regulations, manufacturer instructions and the specifics of the job.
