What is the difference between C16 and C24 timber?
C16 and C24 are strength grades for structural softwood. C24 is the stronger grade with fewer defects, so it spans further or carries more for the same size. C16 is fine for many everyday jobs.
Both C16 and C24 are graded structural softwood, and the number relates to bending strength in newtons per square millimetre. C24 is graded stronger and straighter than C16, so for the same section it can span further or carry a heavier load.
C16 remains perfectly suitable for many domestic applications, while C24 is often specified where spans are longer or loads are higher. Always work to the structural design and span tables for the job.
Otis helps a customer pick the right grade and length for their span, checks stock and prices the timber for the account.
