Flooring Calculator

Work out how many packs of laminate, engineered or vinyl flooring you need for a room.

Pack coverage is printed on the box (often 1.8, 2.5 m²). 10% waste suits a straight lay; use 15% for diagonal or herringbone, or a room with lots of cuts.

Frequently asked questions

How much flooring do I need?

Measure the room area in m², add a wastage margin, then divide by the coverage per pack printed on the label and round up to whole packs.

How much wastage should I allow for flooring?

Allow about 5, 10% for straight, square rooms and up to 15% for diagonal laying, angled rooms or herringbone patterns.

Should I let flooring acclimatise before fitting?

Yes, most laminate and engineered wood needs to sit in the room for 24, 48 hours so it adjusts to the temperature and humidity before it is laid.
