How high should a damp proof course be?
A damp proof course should sit at least 150mm above the finished external ground level, around two brick courses, to stop ground water bridging into the wall.
Building guidance calls for the damp proof course to be a minimum of 150mm above the finished ground level outside, which is around two brick courses. This keeps rain splash and surface water from bridging over the DPC into the wall above.
Where paving or a path sits against the wall, keep it below the DPC line, and never let external levels rise to bridge it. Follow the current Building Regulations for the detail.
Otis can help a customer choose the right DPC and related materials and price them, while pointing them to the correct guidance for their build.
