What spacing for stud wall timbers?
Studs in a timber stud wall are normally set at 400mm or 600mm centres, with 400mm common so plasterboard edges land on a stud. Add noggins between the studs for stiffness.
Stud wall uprights are usually spaced at 400mm or 600mm centres. Four hundred is popular because standard 1200mm plasterboard lands neatly on studs at 400mm, giving well supported board edges.
Add rows of noggins between the studs to stiffen the wall and support board joints, and use the correct timber size for the wall height.
Otis takes the wall dimensions, works out studs, plates and noggins, checks stock and prices the timber and boards for the account.
